Versatile Wood
Wood is probably the most versatile and functional material in the world and forms the basis of so many items we use in our everyday lives. This gives rise for the need to coat, paint and stain wood to keep it looking good and working well. How to do this depends heavily on what the wood is used for, where it is used and how often. Polyurethane coating is perfect for bringing out the true colour of woods and can be used where heat occurs, so your kitchen table, for example. Polyester coating is great for getting a high polished mirror finish so works well on decorative items. Waterborne coatings can be also be used where a non -flammable product is required. Wood coatings can be provided in many different guises for internal and external use. We have access to an extremely wide range of products from wood stains, polyurethane lacquers to polyester coatings and waterborne products. Wood comes in many different forms, from cellulose-based to oil-based, and solvent-based to water-based.
Polyurethane Wood Coating
This can be oil-based or water-based. Water-based polyurethane has low odour and low toxicity and goes on clear. It dries faster than oil-based polyurethane but does not handle heat or chemicals. It is great on anything that will not be exposed to extremes such as desks, bookcases and picture frames. Oil-based polyurethane is more durable than water-based, especially where heat is concerned, so this is a great choice for a kitchen table, for example. It also brings out the richness in the wood as it adds a slight colour tone.
Polyester Base Coats
This can be transparent or white, with wax or wax-free and styrene-free coatings. For a quick totally closed pore finish, a polyester-base coat is ideal. To obtain a gloss, satin, or matte appearance, this can be over-coated with PUR or acrylics. Polyesters are perfect for pianos or boat interiors, automobiles, and furniture because they can be polished to a mirror quality.
Waterborne Products
These are the perfect choice where it is not practical to use traditional solvent-borne wood coating products. The benefits of Waterborne finishes include VOC compliance, non-flammability and they are environmentally friendly.

Impact Coatings provide a specialist wet spraying service at our facility at Eastgates. We can handle a variety of components up to 13 metres long, 3.5 metres high, and 3.5 metres wide in our spray booth which can heat up to 80˚C for extra quick drying times, for most types of wet paint.
We can spray most types of steel, aluminium, copper, brass and zinc in almost any colour, including those from leading suppliers such as Farrow and Ball, Little Green and Dulux.
